Falling Into the Movies: My First 48 Hours in London

"The very first thing I saw when I walked straight out of Westminster station was a red double-decker bus—one of those classic ones you normally only see in the movies. Looking around, the whole layout of the city immediately felt like a scene straight off a cinema screen. After making my way to the hotel to check my luggage in and freshen up, I headed right back out to explore. My first official mission was tracking down a classic British pub for a comforting plate of bangers and mash.As I spent the rest of my 48 hours wandering around Westminster, I quickly realised it’s the political heartbeat of the city. Beyond the historic architecture, the streets were alive with government activity, passionate public speakers, and local protests. Seeing democracy in action right there on the streets made for an incredibly rich and unexpected first experience in London."

"Walking deeper into Westminster, I came across the massive courtyard of Horse Guards Parade. The grandness of the architecture really emphasizes that you are in the heart of London's government district. It was around this area where the energy of the city really picked up—I could hear passionate public speakers and local protests happening nearby. It felt less like a movie set and more like a vibrant, living piece of history."

To finish off an incredible first 48 hours, I took a boat cruise down the River Thames to see the city from the water. Sailing right up to Tower Bridge was an unforgettable highlight. Seeing those massive, historic stone towers loom over the water really puts the grand scale of London into perspective."

"Right around the corner from the lively streets was the stunning Westminster Abbey. Standing in front of those massive, intricate stone towers makes you realize just how many centuries of history have played out on these exact streets. It was wild to think about all the historic figures who have walked through those exact doors while the modern city buzzed right outside."
