From St Pancras to a Whole New World: Arriving in Paris
"Leaving London from St Pancras Station, I was in Paris within just over two hours. Stepping off the train, it instantly felt like I had entered a completely different world. Trying to navigate my way out of that massive, bustling station was an unforgettable experience—but I pulled it off."
My first unforgettable view of the magnificent Arc de Triomphe.
"Once I finally made my way down to the Arc de Triomphe, I stood there amongst the crowds, completely awestruck. It was easily one of the busiest spots I had ever encountered, with an unbelievable amount of energy swirling around it. The monument holds a profound historical weight, serving as a powerful memorial, yet it simultaneously carries a vibrant, bustling tourist energy. It felt like there wasn't a single thing that wasn't happening in that one spot. I spent quite a bit of time there, completely amazed, just standing alongside everyone else and watching the spectacle unfold."
The lower half of the Eiffel Tower rising above green trees and the stone banks of the River Seine under a cloudy sky.
"Here I am at last—standing before one of the most photographed tourist destinations in all of the world. I stood right at the edge of it, looking straight up, completely mesmerized. A wave of reflection hit me as I wondered at the journey that brought me here, and the incredible realization that it was finally real. While it is easily one of the most popular and bustling destinations on earth, standing in its shadow during the day was an experience all its own. I was just grateful to capture a photo and freeze this moment in time."
The golden ornaments of Pont Alexandre III bridging across the River Seine.
"Walking along the banks of the River Seine as a solo traveler, I realized something wonderful: I didn't feel alone at all. Instead, I felt like a living part of everything around me. The atmosphere was completely energized, seamlessly mixing a sense of romance, vibrant movement, and deep tranquility all at once. It was a place where you could easily get lost in the moment, perfectly content just soaking it all in."
A poignant view of the historic Notre-Dame Cathedral as it undergoes its massive restoration following the fire.
Just a month or two before my trip, I remember watching the devastating news that Notre-Dame Cathedral was on fire. It was incredibly sad news to hear right before arriving, but making my way down to the actual site, I was amazed by what I found. The area was cleaned up, and instead of feeling like a somber construction zone, it still held the grand spirit of a historical site. The massive fences shielding the work were beautifully designed, and despite the barriers, the area was full of action and vibrant energy. People were still gathered around, completely enjoying the moment and appreciating the cathedral's enduring presence."
The iconic red windmill of the Moulin Rouge lighting up the streets of Montmartre.
"My hotel was located right in Pigalle, an area famously known throughout history as a vibrant entertainment hub and the historic red-light district of Paris. To my surprise, the entire strip right outside was a bustling hive of activity. Watching it directly from my balcony was a surreal experience; it was amazing to see a place I had only read or heard about right there in front of me. Today, the area has completely evolved, drawing a fascinating mixture of people from all walks of life, with local shops that perfectly fit its eclectic, high-energy vibe."
The grand neoclassical facade of the Église de la Madeleine standing tall over the Parisian streets.
"As I walked through the streets of Paris, I was completely blown away by the architecture. There was this incredible mixture of old, older, and deeply historic buildings all seamlessly woven into the fabric of the city. You don't see the standard, sterile modern apartments or homes that dominate so many other places today; instead, you are constantly surprised by the timeless styles around every corner. It was a surreal feeling to simply grab a casual sandwich for lunch while standing in front of an architectural marvel with hundreds of years of history right before your eyes."
A charming Parisian sidewalk stand serving up fresh, traditional crêpes.
"Exploring the streets further, I fell in love with how Paris handles its eateries, delis, and patisseries. Unlike back home, where everything feels heavily commercialized and mass-produced, Paris thrives on small, independent specialists. You’ll find one tiny storefront completely dedicated to perfecting cakes, another specializing solely in croissants, and walk-up windows serving incredible crêpes. It was amazing to see how everyday passion turns these unique, 'hole-in-the-wall' spaces into thriving, bustling businesses where everyone is an absolute master of their craft."
Soaking in the sun and tranquil atmosphere at the historic Place des Vosges.
"This particular spot was where time truly stood still. It felt as though I had been completely transported to another world, entirely unaware of the bustling metropolis surrounding me—even though I was right in the heart of the city. The entire square became incredibly serene, offering a deep sense of calm and connection. It is the kind of peaceful haven where you could easily sit or lie on the grass all day long, completely content."
"Leaving Paris, I can truly say I have fallen completely in love with this city. It was everything I imagined it would be and so much more. While people often say that the locals can be difficult, that wasn't my experience at all—I think it all comes down to the attitude you have going in. Paris welcomed me with open arms, and it will always hold a incredibly special place in my heart."
